Lifeway Foods expands Kefir presence to Canada

DBR Staff Writer Published 30 July 2014

US-based producer of probiotic dairy products Lifeway Foods has expanded the availability of its probiotic kefir line, Lifeway Kefir, into Canada.

As part of the expansion, the company has launched the smoothie-like cultured dairy beverage in more than 1,000 stores across the country.

The 946ml bottles of Lifeway Kefir will be available for sale in mass market chains, drugstores and health food stores, effective immediately.

Lifeway Foods CEO Julie Smolyansky said that the probiotics market has been experiencing steady global growth, with the largest increase coming from the probiotics foods and beverages segment.

"Entering the UK and now Canada are the first steps in a plan to duplicate our success in the U.S. in other markets around the world," added Smolyansky.

Lifeway Kefir is available in variant flavours including plain, strawberry, blueberry and peach.

According to the company, the milk used in the dairy beverage is sourced from cows that are not treated with antibiotics or artificial growth hormones.

Both gluten and GMO-free Lifeway Kefir is rich in protein and calcium, as well as low in fat, the company claims.
