S&D Coffee announces expansion plans

DBR Staff Writer Published 30 July 2012

US-based S&D Coffee plans for a $35m expansion and will change name to S&D Coffee and Tea to reflect its iced tea offerings.

The company is yet to finalize a location for the new production facility. S&D is currently investing $27.5m to expand and remodel its Concord, North Carolina headquarters.

The first phase of the renovations, including installation of energy efficient windows, are scheduled to be completed by November 2012, while the second phase to begin in 2013.

S&D Coffee chairman and CEO Ron Hinson told independenttribune.com that the company which added 120 positions in the last 12 months is currently expanding its Concord headquarters and is looking for a site to build a $35m expansion plant that will create another 200 jobs.

"What we're looking at for this next go around is probably a 200,000-square-foot facility," he added.

"Our current office space has served us well for nearly four decades, but because S&D is growing so steadily, we realized that the time was right to refresh our office structure.

"It is all part of our ongoing growth, both as a company and as a member of our community. In the upcoming months, we plan to communicate more news about further expansion, including additional facilities."

Hinson also told the website that sales will be between $500-700m by the end of this fiscal year.
