Zeo becomes first soft drink brand to secure Sugarwise certification

DBR Staff Writer Published 08 July 2016

Zeo has become the first global soft drinks brand to be granted the Sugarwise certification in recognition for its low sugar content.

The certification comes as Zeo is undertaking its Sweet Wise campaign intended at educating consumers on the sugar content of adult soft drinks.

The company's range of natural low calorie soft drinks are claimed to feature only half a teaspoon of sugar per 100ml.

Scientists from Cambridge University in the UK recently evaluated the range in order to obtain the Sugarwise rating.

Zeo managing director Mark Young said: "We are proud to lead the charge and announce our status as the first soft drink brand worldwide to be certified by Sugarwise for our natural, low calorie and low sugar range.

"Zeo has just reported a phenomenally successful year, with figures showing a +48% YOY growth across the business, which is a testament to the increased demand for healthier, natural, low sugar alternatives."

Zeo makes a range of lightly carbonated soft drinks. Each bottle has 98% spring water featuring naturally extracted fruits and botanicals with just 11 calories per 100ml.

The company claims that it adds a small amount of South American Stevia and only a touch of beet as well as cane sugar for sweetness.

Zeo's six flavours are crafted in small batches and are below 30 calories for a 275ml bottle.

The usage of less sugar categorises the soft drink as a Food Standards Agency green traffic light.
